About Me
My name is Rolf Meldgaard (My webpage is rolfrawphotography.dk) For me, photography has always been about learning and see things in a new perspective and try to capture the raw vibe of the special moments. I've been taking pictures in nature for many years, and since 2018 I've been shooting pictures of concerts and in 2019 I became a in house photographer at Radar in Aarhus. I've been working with a few bands & artists to take some promo shots. My two favorite things to take pictures of are the beauty of nature and goosebump inducing moments of a live-show.
If you ever find me at a show, I'll be that dude walking around like a mad-man with a camera around my neck and probably bobbing my head along to the music while shooting some pictures.

Noctilucent Clouds & Comet Neowise
One night at home, I saw a different glow outside. It turned out to be Noctilucent clouds dancing around in the night sky giving it a beautiful glow. What I didn't realize when I made this long exposure shot was that Comet Neowise snuck into the photo as well, which make this one of my favorite photos of all times. The picture was taken in Rodskov, DK in the summer of 2020.
Magic glowing mushrooms
My first attempt at making a glowing mushroom picture. This took quite some time to create. It is nine different pictures of the mushrooms mixed together. It was taken 2021 in Holstebro, DK.
Keep up with the flow
I went for a walk in the forrest around Skovmøllen in Aarhus, hoping I could find a spot to make a long exposure picture of the current. I found this beautiful place close to Skovmøllen where I could capture the flow of the water around the stones. It was taken in 2021.

The blossoming of the spring
Taken in 2020 around spring in the beautiful nature of national park Mols Bjerge. I saw this tree where the flowers were about to blossom, and therefore decided to make a noir-style shot of these. A few relatives of mine have asked for print of this, therefore I thought it was fitting it ended up here as well.
Frozen textures
This picture was taken during december 2021 during a beautiful cold day in Holstebro, Denmark. I found this beautiful branches with frost on them hiding in the shadows. I manage to make this capture where everything except the branch is dark. I thought it gave a quite unique picture, better than I had imagine.
The beauty of winter
Another picture in my series of pictures captivating the beauty of the harsh cold weather. This was taken in 2021 December, Holstebro, DK. Cold weather surely creates a lot of beauty during to the weather also being moist here which means that frost can be found everywhere. What I really like about this picture are the vibrant colors

During the autumn of 2019 in Denmark where I found this lonely yellow maple leaf. Found it really stood out with its beautiful texture and therefore I decided to make a picture out of it. It was taken close to Rodskov, DK.
Idyllic walk in the sunset
This picture was taken in 2019 at Egå Marina, DK. It was during the winter time, so it was quite cold despite looking warm. I thought it looked quite idyllic with all the birds flying to their next place as this person walks along the beach. In the background you can spot the cranes at Aarhus Harbor.

Yosemite Falls
This photo of Yosemite Falls in Yosemite National Park, USA was taken from a cliff edge vantage point on the other side of the valley. I woke up from my campsite in Yup toward Yosemite valley a couple hours before sunrise and drove up toward Glacier point. I parked my car and hiked in toward Taft point to capture the sunrise. When the early rays of sun hit the waterfall it created this magical moment.

This is a photo of Half Dome, Vernal, and Nevada Falls in Yosemite National Park, USA. I captured this image from Glacier Point on a trip to the park in late October 2021. I made the one hour drive up to Glacier Point from my campsite in Yosemite Valley prior to sunrise. When I arrived at Glacier Point it was raining and there was very poor visibility. However, shortly after sunrise, the rain stopped and the clouds began to part. The view was truly breathtaking.

This is a photo of Half Dome, USA. I captured this image from Glacier Point on a trip to the park in late October 2021. I made the one hour drive up to Glacier Point from my campsite in Yosemite Valley prior to sunrise. When I arrived at Glacier Point it was raining and there was very poor visibility. After a bit of bush-wacking, I approached the cliff edge and saw Half Dome beautifully framed by some trees and I captured this image.

Grand Sunset
This sunset photo was taken at Grand Canyon National Park, USA. After spending the day scouting different possible photo locations, I decided that this was the spot where I wanted to be at sunset. It was mid winter, and even though the canyon is in the southern USA, it is also surprising high in elevation at about 7000 ft. Consequently, it was very cold at sunset. I put on my warmest clothes, and set up my camera on a tripod and waited for the sun to go down. As the sun went below the horizon, the sky lit up with vivid color which reflected off the canyon walls to create my favorite image of the Grand Canyon.

I met this magical tree, whose branches hug in a quiet grip, on my way up to Pico Ruivo, the highest peak of Madeira Island.
Mushroom in the Forest by the Sea
I searched the forest for days for mushrooms to photograph where I could isolate the subject and make a really peaceful scene of it, and this (as it is known in danish) Karl Johan mushroom was standing beautifully by itself on a small hill in the forest just besides the ocean. So the background is the blurred trees in front of the ocean which together create these wonderful colours.

In our everyday lives we rarely have time to stop and look more closely at the intimate details. In fact, even if we had time, we probably wouldn't spend it on those little things. But there is beauty and peace of mind to be found.

The Andromeda galaxy
The Andromeda galaxy - Our nearest galaxy neighbor 2.5 million light-years from Earth. The photo was taken over 11 separate nights from the beginning of September to the end of October, and consists of 340 photos, with a total exposure of 28 hours. Andromeda will begin to collide with our galaxy in a few billion years, where the two will become a unified galaxy - what a sight for those present there!

View of the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge at sunset. I captured this image while on a photography and cycling trip to San Francisco. On the trip, I was really inspired by the beauty and engineering achievement of the bridge. I ended up taking pictures of the bridge from every conceivable vantage point and time of day and night. This ended up being my favorite image.
Mystical Energy
Mount Shasta, California. This photo is taken from the mountains above Castle lake. I spent 35 years living in Mount Shasta. Some people believe that the mountain is a mystical place with one of the strongest "energy vortexes" in the world. Thousands of spiritual seekers from across the globe travel to Mount Shasta each year in search of life changing and enhancing experiences. This is one of my favorite photos that I captured while living there. I feel this image does a good job of capturing the amazing beauty and energy of the mountain.
Rock Bound
The rugged and beautiful Canadian Rockies near Banff. I took this photo on a two hour, pre-sunrise hike into Rockbound Lake. My goal was to arrive at the lake for sunrise. Although I was a little freaked out at the prospect of running into a grizzley bear while hiking alone in the dark, the amazing beauty that I encountered when the sun rose made this a life peak experience.
Canadian Rockies
The breathtaking and rugged Canadian Rockies in the Fall. I captured this image on a pre-dawn into rockbound lake near Banff, Alberta Canada. My goal was to complete the two hour uphill hike into the lake so that I could experience the sunrise from the lake. Although I was freaked out at the prospect of encountering a grizzley bear in the dark, the awe I experienced when the sun rose made this a peak life moment.
Sedona
Sedona Arizona. Sedona is my favorite desert destination. It is rich in hiking, biking, and photography opportunities. In addition it is a cool, funky, and thriving community of diverse and interesting people. I like how this image was able to capture the beauty of the desert and red sandstone rock formations that Sedona is famous for.
Alaska
Glacier bay, Alaska. I was never a fan of the idea of vacation cruises, but I thought I would make an exception for a cruise to see Glacier Bay in Alaska. It is cloudy and rainy about 300 days out of the year in Glacier Bay, but when our ship arrived, the skies opened up and I experienced the majesty of one of the most amazing places on the planet.
Yosemite Point
I captured this sunset image of Half Dome from a location near Yosemite Point. I have a love-hate relationship with landscape photography because to capture the best images you most be at remote locations at sunrise or sunset. This often means a lack of sleep and hiking in the cold and dark. On the other hand, it allows me to experience things that most people will never experience. Reaching Yosemite Point requires a strenuous and challenging hike of several thousand feet elevation gain from the valley floor carrying heavy photography gear. The reward was one of the most beautiful sunsets that I have ever experienced. Hiking down to the valley in the dark was well worth the experience that I will never forget.

Ain't nothing but blue skies
Shot on 35mm Kodak Gold 200. On a beautiful spring day, somewhere in the woods close to Copenhagen, I took this shot. The birds were chirping, sun shining, wind was blowing oh so gently. It was so serene - almost as a scene from a movie. I looked up and the branches, not yet awoken from the winter sleep, set against the blue sky looked almost covered in gold - and I knew, spring had arrived.

Faroese sheep tend to have very little flocking instinct due to no natural predators, and will range freely year round in small groups in pastureland, which ranges from meadows, to rugged rocky mountaintops and lush bird-cliffs

The name Føroyar (Faroe Islands) is derived from old Norse Færeyjar and literally means Sheep Islands. In fact, the islands are inhabited by 70,000 sheep – meaning that the size of the sheep population is 20,000 inhabitants bigger than the human population. So, even if you feel trained in counting sheep (from trying to fall asleep at night), good luck counting all the Faroese ones.
